When the clocks change in the United States.
Most of the country moves its clocks forward one hour on the second Sunday of March and back one hour on the first Sunday of November, at 2:00 local time. The rules are set by the Department of Transportation.

Hawaii, most of Arizona, Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands do not change their clocks. The Navajo Nation in Arizona does.
Federal holidays in the United States, 2026.
When a federal holiday falls on a Saturday it is observed on the Friday before, and on a Sunday it moves to the Monday after. The official list is kept by the Office of Personnel Management.

How many time zones does the United States have?
The 50 states and Washington, DC use six time zones: Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Alaska and Hawaii-Aleutian. Counting Puerto Rico, Guam and the other territories, United States law defines nine time zones in total.

What time zone is Washington, DC in?
Washington, DC is in Eastern Time. It is 5 hours behind Coordinated Universal Time in winter and 4 hours behind during daylight saving time, the same as New York, Atlanta and Miami.

Which states have more than one time zone?
Fourteen states use two time zones: Alaska, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee and Texas. The state list above shows both zones for each of them.

Does the United States observe daylight saving time?
Yes. Most of the country moves clocks forward one hour on the second Sunday of March and back on the first Sunday of November, both at 2:00 local time. In 2026 that is Sunday, 8 March 2026 and Sunday, 1 November 2026. Hawaii, most of Arizona and the territories do not change.

When does daylight saving time end in 2026?
Daylight saving time ends on Sunday, 1 November 2026 at 2:00 local time, when clocks go back to 1:00. It starts again on Sunday, 14 March 2027, when clocks go forward one hour.

Does Arizona change its clocks?
No. Arizona stays on Mountain Standard Time all year, 7 hours behind Coordinated Universal Time, so in summer it has the same time as California. The Navajo Nation in the northeast of the state is the exception and does observe daylight saving time.

What is the time difference between New York and Los Angeles?
Los Angeles is 3 hours behind New York all year. Both cities change their clocks on the same dates, so the difference never changes: when it is noon in New York, it is 9:00 in Los Angeles.

How many federal holidays are there in the United States?
There are 11 federal holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Most of Texas, including Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin, uses Central Time. El Paso and Hudspeth County in the far west use Mountain Time, one hour behind the rest of the state.
